Research is one of the core functions of Transfrontier Africa and is strongly linked to all the other fields of action of the organisation: volunteers, security and community development and engagement. One of the key objectives of the organisation is to support management in making informed decisions based on scientific evidence. Indeed, in order to make informed ecological management decisions and to meet the legal requirements with which a nature reserve must comply, OWNR has entrusted Transfrontier Africa to conduct research projects that meet these needs. In light of this agreement, TA’s Research Department must ensure that research is focused on applied projects that benefit the stakeholders of the nature reserve and are linked to management objectives.
Our strategy
The Research Department designed its own research plan which outlines the research projects that will be conducted in the following years to answer local and global conservation needs. This research projects are usually conducted by interns under the supervision of the research team. As communication is key in applied sciences, we encourage the publication and presentation of the findings of significant research projects and facilitate the communication between scientists and managers. We also rely on strong partnerships with researchers, universities and organisation to develop or be part of meaningful projects, ensuring our contribution to global conservation efforts.
Relying on interns to conduct our research projects serves multiple goals:
